Maria Shalygina is a National Certified Counselor who has received her master’s degree in Clinical Mental health from Southern New Hampshire University. She has obtained her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Keystone College. Currently she is working on earning her LPC in the state of Pennsylvania.
Maria’s practice is diverse, catering to a wide range of clients, from young children and families to adults and geriatric populations. She gained her experience with children and families, while working for Scranton Counseling Center with School Based Behavioral Health team and her work with adults was in their Crisis Residential and Stabilization Unit.
While working with young children, Maria facilitates unlocking internal potential through empirical interventions of art and play therapy. Children learn how to process their emotions, navigate their surroundings, build self-esteem, and gain an understanding of who they are while strengthening their core identity. At the same time, she provides support to families and teaches them to prioritize connections, communication, and healthy approaches to solving conflicts. Maria is experienced working with ADHD, opposition defiant disorder, anxiety, depression, adjustment disorder, and trauma.
When counseling adults, Maria administers person-centered care as she applies various interventions that allow inner exploration, finding meaning, addressing maladaptive thinking patterns, and promoting mindfulness while working with anxiety, trauma, depression, stress management, relationships, substance use, or obsessive-compulsive disorders. Her interventions include DBT, CBT, motivational interviewing, and solution-focused theory. Maria’s therapeutic philosophy is rooted in empowering her clients. She is dedicated to helping them tap into their inner potential, gain understanding and acceptance of who they are, and discover their personal strengths.
